The Wandering Inn Read Along : Ch 1.06

Recap

Erin makes some pasta but there is a new visitor to the inn even before she can take a bite.

Let’s read further

Well, a bug-man. Hopefully a friend, no foes rings the door bell. Do they?

Seems like some law-enforcement division of the area. C’mon Erin be brave and open the door.

I like the banter between the lizardman and the antman.

Lizardman and Antman is not surprised by the mention of magic. It seems to be a known entity in this world.

Klbkch, such a weird name. How will you pronounce it?

So, this leveling concept is common paradigm in this world. That is so interesting.

Some interesting history and world building. I am intrigued.

A magical healing potion and an antman which pokes you when you hug, this world is getting cozier day by day. Relc is another cutey I believe.

Determining sex by discussion about tits, not at all feeling weird.

They are not believing her story, I wonder what is the next trouble coming up for Erin.

A lizard, so sorry a drake ‘ewing’ on humans. Lol

Finally, a good day for Erin.

Closing Thoughts

It felt like such a long chapter. I agree that at least it is helping in fleshing out this world a little bit better. Still, I wouldn’t mind if it were a little shorter.

I am wrapping up my reads for El Salvador. I have read 3 books from this country. I have shortlisted few more but for some reason it is not speaking to me. I am thinking of changing the format in which I approach books for these countries. Sometimes reading with a fixed schedule becomes a slog. This is especially true for a moody reader like me. Will share full post for El Salvador soon.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Last night, I started The Woman in Me by Britney Spears, as none of my current reads were appealing to me. I just finished it. Hers is such a sad story. I’ve read a bunch of celebrity memoirs, and somehow the theme of abusive and exploitative parents seems to be a common thread. It’s heartbreaking to be used by the very people we place the most trust in. Power to her for breaking out of it.

The Wandering Inn Read Along : Ch 1.05

Recap

Erin discovers about some magical elements in the inn. There is missing skeleton and there is return of Goblin and Dragon.

Let’s read further

The fish exploded and insects crawled out of it. And to think that she was planning to eat this fish. Ugh.

Wow, another exploding bug filled with acid. Aba is completely grossing me out here.

Showing middle finger and feeling better post that, well that’s mature.

Baker Erin activated, let the cozy inn vibes begin.

So, so the character in this world gain the skill in real, rather than it just being a meta. That’s exciting.

Discovering how to build fire, great achievement Erin.

New characters alert. Seems to be some guards from the nearby town/village that Erin observed earlier.

Wow, too many sudden explosion in this chapter, if nothing Aba plan to kill Erin by a sudden heart attack.

Anyone please tell Erin to stay away from the nest. That is not a stone but the egg and mother seeing you around it won’t be happy.

People speak English here, that’s so convenient.

Am I the only one thinking, what is the type of egg here? Is it even suitable for making pasta? Or to even eat?

I don’t even eat eggs, and the thought that it could have hatched is really upsetting. But I can get it, she is survival mode right now.

Let the girl eat before throwing a new challenge in her face.

Closing Thoughts

I am enjoying the slow burn of the slice of life elements. The brief mentions of new characters and elements keeps the story promising and is making me look forward to read the next chapter.

The Wandering Inn : Ch 1.04

Recap

Erin dares to step out again to find water and found a stream. She caught a fish which she brings back to inn to cook and cuts herself while trying to do so.

Let’s read further

Stream was at different spot. Do things move in this world? Or does the inn is magical and it keeps moving?

Were scissors not available in medieval times? It seems unintuitive to me as it seems like such a simple but genius invention.

My guess is that the inn has some magical properties too. Otherwise how would you explain a pristine cupboard full of food in a dilapidated inn.

A magical cupboard with runes, sounds too witch-y.

My guess is that the runes on the cupboards are not working due to some physical damages like, chipped paints or wood, and the runes can be reactivated again by fixing these damages.

Seems like I am right, the runes stopped working when she chipped the wood.

Mr. Skeleton? Wait, what. Did I miss something in the first chapter? Or maybe it was missed in the new edited version of the chapter.

So, the skeleton I didn’t even know of is now missing. Intriguing.

Open door, so did the skeleton walked out himself, or is there some other character who took it?

Please let it just be a skeleton.‘ Thinking that it would be the least scary proposition of all.

It’s a Goblin. New characters finally.

So, the goblin came back to revenge their earlier defeat but was beaten again. A little goblin is curious and is keeping a watch on Erin. But the Dragon is also back keeping watch on all of them.

Closing Thoughts

So, some movement here in terms of plot. We learned something about a soft magic system with runes, which I am excited to learn about. The Dragon and Goblins are back, so the story will move further. Looking forward for the next one.

Finished Solito today, and I really loved the book. I would say that it might be the star book for El Salvador.

Now starting A Wild Sheep Chase for International Murakami Bookclub.

The Wandering Inn: Ch 1.02

Quick Recap

Erin dares to step out of the inn to find some food. She is chased by a crab-monster which she defeated by running very fast. The dragon is a cutesy and is more afraid of human than the other way around.

Let’s read further

Interesting, the Goblins were carrying baskets and eating blue fruits. Like the dragon, is it the case that they are also not dangerous. Now, I wonder if there any real monsters in this world?

Wow, nothing is happening to write about. She cleaned the floor, found a stream, drank too much water, took a bath. And maybe she has unlocked the skill of ‘Basic Cleaning’, and apparently she is already on fourth level. It is still not very clear to me, how this level up is happening.

Finally, a monster is here.

It is not a monster, it is a fish, and that too on the land. And, now she died, I am sad for the poor fish.

Okay, time to unlock new skill, cooking maybe.

Lol, that would be so awesome if you can do chores just by activating a skill.

“Ew. Ew. Ew.” same reaction from a vegetarian.

Everything in this world happens in slow motion, first the description of cut, then blood and then pain. Everything happening in such phased manner. But feeling bad for Erin. How old is she? Seems like middle-age school girl to me. I wonder how quickly a good day turned into such a sad day for her.

Closing Thoughts

Nothing happens in this chapter at all. I liked how the author is trying to get the reader attached to Erin. The author does this by describing every small joy and sadness. In the last scene, she recounts the chess game. You can’t help but feel for the poor girl and her loneliness.

The Wandering Inn – Ch 1.01

What we know so far

Erin has stumbled into another world through some form of teleportation. It seems to follow a video game setup, as she discovers an inn and unlocks first level by cleaning.

Let’s read further

Two moons, so the setup of this world is not on Earth.

Why is she lying on dirty floor, when she has just cleaned up all the tables.

Yes girl, it is a video game.

Girl, I know you need something to wipe the tears, but using the same rag that you used to clean up layers of dirt is gross.

Chess and computer, so she definitely came from modern times Earth.

What do you mean by ‘The clouds were too big’ or ‘The sky was too vast’? How can sky be too vast. It is already vast in superlative degree.

A rainbow grasslands, that seems beautiful.

A new town in the vicinity. Already building up the story for extension.

Now, she is chased by the crab-monster. Seems too juvenile for my taste.

The crab-monster stopped running after a point. Definitely a video game fantasy world.

Honestly, I was also expecting some announcement when Erin grabbed the fruit—like “Quest completed” or “Level up!” But, just like in video games, each level gets harder as you progress.

Oh wow, we are going through the head of Dragon, that is cool. I have only read fantasy where you have conversation with the Dragon but never seen things from their perspective.

This Dragon is definitely not a monster. He was the one scared of Erin. Oh, he is so cute.

‘Magical disturbance at the Academy’, Harry Potter vibes coming through.

A dragon also has to take care of chores, lol, I will feel better now doing my own chores.

Conclusive Thoughts

I came to this book knowing absolutely nothing about it. I had very low expectations. I am fairly surprised that I am enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the next one

I just found out that The Wandering Inn has a graphic novel adaptation, which is really cool. I’ve only read Chapter 1 so far, but I was impressed by the artwork—it adds a whole new layer to the story. Right now, there are 12 illustrated chapters, and adapting the entire series is definitely going to be a challenge. Wishing the illustrator the best for this big-big project!
