The Sea of Monsters is the second book the 5 books series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson is half-blood hero or demi-god meaning he is half human and half god since his father is a Greek god Poseidon. In this book, Percy sets out on an expedition to retrieve golden fleece to save the Half-Blood camp and also his friend Grover.
This is a book targeted for middle school children and reading a book as an adult was not as exciting experience as I have heard and read reviews of. Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a book written for middle grade as an adult, Harry Potter being a obvious example, so this book was a little disappointment for me.
However I find it much better than the first book because I feel now since the world has introduced in the first book, the second book worked on building the storyline that spans across the series. Now if I talk about the whole storyline vs the individual book, I believe the story building has got me interested to read the next book too, but as an individual story was little weak for me. It might be good to pique the interest of middle grader but it didn’t work on me. There are too many parallels in the book with the Harry Potter series like the Grey sister cabs, the chariot race and the child prodigy that is Percy fighting the ultimate evil titan currently gaining power in a hideout.
I would recommend this book to young readers as they would like the concept of whole world and it can be a good learning experience too for them to adapt the attributes of courage and friendship in their life. However if you are reading it as a adult you can pick it up based on your own discretion.
